Terms of Use, Acceptable Use Policy & Privacy

Effective October 1, 2026 · Operated by Snignal · Updated October 8, 2026

The short version

  • Maître d’ gives you AI-generated perspectives for reflection and practice. It is not professional advice, and it can be wrong.
  • Verify legal, financial, medical, mental-health, employment and safety decisions with a qualified professional before acting.
  • Your sessions are stored only in your browser. We don’t keep copies. Content passes through our server to the AI provider to generate responses. Optional voice dictation is handled by your browser; we only receive the text.
  • Use it lawfully and respectfully. The Acceptable Use Policy below lists what’s off-limits.
  • The app, its advisors, portraits and private instructions belong to us. Use them for your own decisions, not to copy them, scrape them, or build a competing product or AI model.
  • You use Maître d’ at your own risk and release us from liability for decisions you make, as described below.
  • You must be 18 or older, or use a student profile set up by your host (study tables only; under-18s need a parent or guardian’s permission).

1. Acceptance of terms & service scope

By accessing or using Maître d’ (the “Platform”), operated by Snignal (“Company,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), you agree to these Terms of Use, including the Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”), the Release of Liability and the Privacy section (together, the “Terms”). If you don’t agree, don’t use the Platform.

The Platform provides AI-generated advisor perspectives, coaching and analytical frameworks across many subjects, including roundtable debates, mock interviews, pitch practice, negotiation practice and reflection exercises. The Platform does not provide professional legal, financial, investment, tax, medical, psychological, or employment advice.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use the Platform, except through a student profile. Parents and guardians may use tables such as the College Decision Council on a student’s behalf. If we learn that someone under 18 is using the Platform outside a student profile, we may block access.

Student profiles. A host can set up a student profile for someone studying, including a student under 18 who has a parent or guardian’s permission. A student profile can use only the study tables (bringing a lesson, quizzes, practice cases and explanations). Its replies are kept age-appropriate and focused on learning, and its messages are screened with stricter rules. The study tables are for studying, not for completing graded work or taking tests.

3. Acceptable Use Policy: prohibited conduct

You agree not to use the Platform, create custom advisors, upload documents or transcripts, or share access to the Platform to facilitate, encourage, or engage in any of the following:

  • Illegal acts & fraud. Planning, encouraging or carrying out illegal acts, including financial fraud, tax evasion, corporate espionage, wage theft, unlawful termination or discrimination, intellectual property theft, or evading regulation.
  • Violence, self-harm & exploitation. Content that depicts, threatens or encourages violence, terrorism, weapons manufacturing, self-harm, suicide, or human exploitation.
  • Harassment & hate. Advisors, catchphrases or scenarios designed to intimidate, stalk, defame or abuse anyone, or to generate hate speech against individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age or any other protected characteristic.
  • Sexual content. Sexually explicit content, or any non-consensual romantic or sexual content. Any sexual content involving minors is strictly prohibited.
  • Deception & impersonation. Using AI advisors, including “Your People” advisors built from real people you know, to deceive, impersonate, or misrepresent what a real person said or believes.
  • Recordings without permission. Uploading transcripts of conversations you aren’t legally permitted to record or share, or without the consent your local law requires.
  • Unlawful data processing. Uploading Social Security numbers, passwords, account numbers, protected health information about others, or other confidential personal data without authorization or in violation of privacy laws such as GDPR, CCPA or HIPAA.
  • System abuse. Attempting to bypass, disable or subvert safety screening, prompts or content filters (“jailbreaking”); scraping; overloading the service; sharing access codes publicly; using the Platform to build a competing service; or reverse-engineering its orchestration.
  • Copying our advisors, prompts or content. Scraping, harvesting, crawling or bulk-copying the Platform; reverse engineering, decompiling or otherwise attempting to derive its source code, prompts or instructions; attempting to make advisors or the host reveal, quote or reconstruct their private instructions (for example through “prompt injection”); or copying, republishing or redistributing our advisor characters (their names, descriptions, personalities and backstories), portraits, table designs or other content, except as these Terms allow.
  • Competing products & model training. Using the Platform, or any output from it, to build, train, fine-tune, benchmark or improve a competing product or service or any AI model, or to create an advisor, character or persona library, prompt collection or similar product derived from the Platform.
  • Violating the AI provider’s policies. Any use that violates Anthropic’s Usage Policy, which also applies to requests made through the Platform.

4. Enforcement & reporting

  • Automated screening. Messages are screened on our server before advisors respond, using simple rules and an automated AI check of what the request is trying to do. Requests that appear to violate this AUP are declined. Questions about whether something is legal, or how to protect yourself, are welcome.
  • What we record when a request is declined. Only that it happened: the time, the name on your invitation and a general category (for example “fraud” or “harassment”). We never record what you wrote. Repeated declined requests in one day pause your access until your host reviews it.
  • Report a problem. If something at the table seems unsafe, wrong or misused, email hello@snignal.com. Don’t include anything you wouldn’t want us to read.
  • No account review. Because your sessions are stored in your browser and not on our servers, we do not routinely review your conversations. We may review content you choose to send us, such as a support request.
  • Suspension. We may block access, revoke or change access codes, or restrict network addresses associated with violations or abuse, without notice.
  • Legal requests & safety. Where required by law, or where we believe in good faith there is a credible threat of serious harm, we may share the limited technical information we hold (such as request logs) with law enforcement or other authorities.

5. Your content & responsibilities

You keep ownership of what you type, upload or paste (“Your Content”). You give us and our service providers permission to process Your Content only as needed to generate responses and operate the Platform. You confirm that you have the rights and any required consents to share Your Content, including documents, transcripts, job descriptions, pitches, and descriptions of other people.

AI-generated outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete or inconsistent, and similar outputs may be generated for other users. You are responsible for how you use outputs.

6. Our intellectual property

What we own. The Platform and everything we provide through it are owned by Snignal or its licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, trade-secret and other laws. This includes the software and its design; the advisor characters (their names, descriptions, personalities, backstories and private profiles); the Maître d’ host character; portraits and illustrations; table designs; prompts, instructions and other system content; and the text, graphics and logos on the Platform (together, “Our Content”). Our names and logos may not be used without our written permission.

Your license. We give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable license to use the Platform for your own decisions, practice and reflection, in line with these Terms. We reserve all rights not expressly granted. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of Our Content to you.

Outputs. As between you and us, you may use the responses the Platform generates for you for your own personal or professional purposes, such as acting on advice or sharing a synthesis with people involved in your decision. You may not use outputs in the ways the Acceptable Use Policy prohibits, including to build or train competing products or models, or to republish our advisors or content. Outputs are generated by AI and may be similar to outputs given to others.

Confidential instructions. The private instructions that shape our advisors and host are confidential trade secrets. They are kept on our servers and are not part of what we license to you. Attempts to extract, reconstruct or disclose them violate these Terms.

Feedback. If you send us ideas or suggestions, we may use them without restriction or compensation to you.

7. Privacy & where your data is stored

Maître d’ has no user accounts and keeps no database of your conversations. Here is where each kind of information goes:

InformationWhere it livesWho can see it
Sessions, syntheses, debriefs, 1:1s, documents, transcripts and line notes, saved “Your People” tables, interview, pitch and negotiation setups, your reactions and saved takeaways, and your decision journal (decisions, check-in dates, outcomes and advisor track records)Only in your web browser on this device (browser storage called IndexedDB)You, and anyone with access to this browser profile. Not us.
Voice dictation, if you use the microphone buttonConverted to text by your web browser’s built-in speech recognition. Depending on your browser, the audio may be sent to the browser maker’s speech service to be transcribed (for example, Chrome uses Google’s). Only the resulting text enters Maître d’.Your browser and, where applicable, its speech provider under its own privacy terms. We never receive audio.
Your phone number, when sign-in is requiredSent to our server when you sign in, checked against the host’s invitation list, and not stored. The invitation list itself keeps only your name, the last 4 digits of your number and a scrambled code, never your full number. Your browser keeps a signed 30-day pass that doesn’t contain your number. The host, who maintains the invitation list. We never use it to contact you or share it.
Your invitation request, if you ask for oneOur database (Upstash): your name, mobile number and how you heard about Maître d’, so we can review the request and text you an invitation. Deleted when the request is approved or declined, and after 90 days at most. Once you’re invited, only your name and the last 4 digits of your number are kept, as for everyone on the list.
Your activity, when signed inOur database (Upstash): when you sign in, your device type (phone, tablet or desktop), when you were last active, and counts of the features and tables you use (for example, rounds run or tables shared), kept for up to about 13 months, along with an estimate of the AI cost of that activity. The host, who sees it under the name on your invitation. It never includes what you write, what advisors say, or your phone number.
Access code or sign-in passYour browser’s local storageYou
Messages and context sent when advisors respondPasses through our server to the AI provider and back. We don’t store it.Processed transiently by our server and by the AI provider
At a sponsored table: anonymous totals for the sponsorEach message you write is labeled by AI (for example “unsure” about a topic, or “comparing options”) and only the label is counted, in hourly totals for that table, together with taps like “Did this help?”. Your words are not stored. Sponsors see totals only after at least 10 conversations, never anything about one person.Us and the table’s sponsor, in aggregate only
Website analyticsVercel Web Analytics counts page views on our site: pages visited, the referring site, and general browser, device and country details. According to Vercel, it does not use cookies.Us and Vercel, in aggregate. Analytics never receive the contents of your conversations, documents or transcripts, and shared-table links are removed from the address bar before analytics loads.
Technical request logs (for example IP address, time, response status)Our hosting provider’s logsUs and our hosting provider, for security, abuse prevention and reliability
Shared tables you sendEncrypted in your browser, then kept on our server as unreadable data for up to 7 days so the link can be short. The decryption key exists only in the link, after the “#”, which browsers never send to a server. If short links are unavailable, the table is packed into the link itself instead.Anyone who has the link. We can’t read the stored copy. Each person who opens the link keeps their own copy in their own browser. Private 1:1s, your decision journal, reactions, saved takeaways and full recordings are never included.
Backup files you exportWherever you save themWhoever you share them with

Each session

Each session is saved to your browser automatically as you go. Opening the site from a different address, browser, or device starts fresh. Use Export backup in Your notebook to move or keep your data, and Import backup to restore it. Clearing your browser’s site data, using private browsing, or some browsers’ automatic cleanup of inactive sites can delete your sessions permanently. We can’t recover them.

Shared tables

When you share a table, your browser encrypts it with a new random key before anything leaves your device. Our server stores only the encrypted copy, deletes it automatically after 7 days, and never receives the key, which lives only in the link you send. That means we can’t read shared tables. Anyone who has the link can open it, so send it only to the people you mean to invite. Once someone opens it, their copy lives in their browser, and deleting yours doesn’t delete theirs. When the people you invite add messages and run new rounds, their contributions are processed by the AI provider in the same way as yours.

Analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how people find and use Maître d’: which pages are visited and where visitors come from. According to Vercel, it doesn’t use cookies or track you across other sites. It never receives what you write to the table or what the advisors say. Contact hello@snignal.com with questions.

Source links

When you choose Show sources (or turn on automatic sources), a short summary of that synthesis (its headline, summary and next steps, plus your opening question) is sent to our AI provider, which searches the web to find reference pages. Your full conversation isn’t included. Only links that the search actually returned are shown, and you should check each one before relying on it.

Activity of signed-in users

When access is invite-only, signing in lets the host see when you visit and which features you use, so they can improve Maître d’ and manage costs. We record sign-in times, your device type and counts of features and tables used, under the name on your invitation. We never record the contents of your conversations, documents or transcripts, or your phone number. Ask your host or hello@snignal.com to have your activity record deleted.

Check-in reminders

When you record a decision, you can download a calendar file for the check-in date. It goes into your own calendar app; Maître d’ doesn’t send emails or notifications, and check-ins only appear when you open the app in the same browser.

Voice dictation

Dictation is optional and only runs while the microphone button is on. Your browser asks for microphone permission the first time, and you can revoke it at any time in your browser’s site settings. If you’d rather keep audio on your device, use your operating system’s keyboard dictation instead, or type.

The AI provider

Responses are generated by AI models from Anthropic, which processes requests on our behalf under its commercial terms and privacy policy. Don’t include anything you wouldn’t want processed by an AI service.

Private sessions and encrypted backups

Turn on Private session and nothing from that table is saved on your device: no session, no decision journal entry, and nothing remembered for later sessions. Messages still pass through our server to the AI provider to generate responses, as with any session. When you export a backup, you can protect it with a passphrase: the file is encrypted in your browser (AES-256) and can only be opened with that passphrase. We never receive your passphrase and can’t recover it for you.

Deleting your data

You can delete individual sessions, documents and saved tables in Your notebook, or delete everything by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings. Because we don’t hold your content, there is nothing for us to delete on our side beyond routine technical logs, which expire on our hosting provider’s schedule.

8. Disclaimers

  • AI-generated only. All advisors, panels, investors, counterparts, future selves, debates and Maître d’ syntheses are outputs produced by artificial intelligence for educational, reflective and practice purposes only.
  • No real people. Archetype advisors are not real people. Historical figures are portrayed in the spirit of their documented ideas, never as quotations. “Your People” advisors are AI role-plays built only from your description and do not speak for the real person. Interviewers, investors and negotiation counterparts are fictional, and nothing they say is a real job offer, investment offer or agreement.
  • No professional or fiduciary relationship. Using the Platform does not create an attorney-client, physician-patient, therapist-client, financial-advisor, fiduciary, or employment relationship.
  • Verify independently. You are fully responsible for verifying legal, regulatory, employment, financial, investment, tax, medical, mental-health, athletic, vehicle, home-safety and other information with qualified, licensed professionals before taking real-world action.
  • Not for emergencies. If you’re in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 (US Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or your local emergency number. For a gas smell, fire or other immediate danger, leave and call emergency services.
  • “As is.” The Platform is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don’t guarantee the Platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that your browser-stored data will be preserved.

9. Release of liability & assumption of risk

You understand that AI outputs can be wrong, incomplete, or unsuited to your situation, and that you alone decide what to do with them. You voluntarily assume all risks arising from your use of the Platform and from any decision or action you take, or decline to take, based on its outputs.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release, waive and forever discharge Snignal and its owners, officers, employees, contractors, and service providers from any and all claims, demands, losses, damages and liabilities, known or unknown, arising out of or related to your use of the Platform, your reliance on any output, the loss of browser-stored data, or any decision you make, including decisions about employment, investments, purchases, negotiations, health, education, housing, vehicles, and relationships.

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Snignal from claims by third parties arising from your content, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of anyone else’s rights.

If you are a California resident, you waive California Civil Code Section 1542, which says: “A general release does not extend to claims that the creditor or releasing party does not know or suspect to exist in his or her favor at the time of executing the release and that, if known by him or her, would have materially affected his or her settlement with the debtor or released party.” Residents of other places waive any similar law.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Snignal will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or opportunities, arising from or related to the Platform or these Terms, even if advised of the possibility. Our total liability for all claims relating to the Platform will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or fifty U.S. dollars ($50).

Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain exclusions or limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

11. General terms

  • Changes. We may update these Terms. If we make material changes, we’ll update the effective date and ask you to accept again before your next session. Continuing to use the Platform means you accept the updated Terms.
  • Changes to the Platform. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the Platform at any time.
  • Governing law. These Terms are governed by the laws of Ohio, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Summit County, Ohio, except where the law requires otherwise.
  • Severability. If any part of these Terms is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
  • Entire agreement. These Terms are the entire agreement between you and us about the Platform.
